Recent Incident

Hey you guys,
I would like to hear some of your responses to my next topic: the Presidential Election.
Someone recently told me that a woman was driving down the street with an Obama sticker on her car. A man pulled out a gun and yelled, "Take that off of your car." Is it just me or was insane? I thought that this was the land of freedom of speech. Maybe it should be the land where your speech is free only if I agree with it. On a personal level, have you ever found yourself angry with someone or responding to them rudely because they said something that sent your conscience alarm off? Yeah, me too. However, we are wrong. Being different is what life is about. Just because you dont agree with someone does not mean that yhall cant be friends or that you have to be rude to them. I personally dont think that this is a discrimation issue but more of a maturity issue. It takes a mature person who is confident in where they are and what they believe to state it and take criticism. Now, on a governmental level. What the he--- is America thinking being so rude to people because of their choice. Hello, in the HISTORY of this country we have only had one race of leaders. Hello, America. There is something wrong with this picture. Am I implying that you should choose someone based on their color or that our past president's have not done a good job? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I am, however, about to ask an important question. For my Caucasian classmates, how would you feel if there had never been a white president? Forget the fact that if you make enough money, you can live where you like, or if you so choose you can befriend people of all races? Really, how would you feel if the leader of your country had never been someone of your descent? To my African-American and minority classmates, how do you feel with this being a reality?

That is CRAZY!!! you are right, what happen to the land of the free? some people don't realize that still 100 years later. I try to see people as people. I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But,I don't think it is right to tell someone else what they shoudl be doing or who they should be voting for. regardless of the color of a person's skin. I just want the right person in office who going to be looking out for my well being as well as other fellow Americans.

INTERESTING
I actually purchased an OBAMA sticker for my car but i took it off myself. WHY? Because I felt that someone would vandalize my car or make a racist remark regarding the bumper sticker. But I did place the sticker in the opening of my door, where as if my door is open the sticker is visible. I also believe that my choice of president WILL BE TAKEN TO THE POLLS!!!!...
I was also undecided on wearing my OBAMA button to class. A few weeks ago I purchased the button and wore the button all week long but when it was time for class I second the thought of wearing it to class...isn't that crazy
To think that racism continues to exist in 2008 is ridiculous.

I am voting for Obama but I am amazed at the number of McCain/Palin posters I have seen in peoples yards in my neighborhood. I am beginning to feel like one of three democrats living in baldwin county. I think it is really scary how many people have bought into the rumors of Obama being a socialist or secretly a muslim, associates with terrorists etc. As Colin Powell said, Obama is a Christian but if Obama was a Muslim, so what! Can we tell young Muslim Americans you can go to war and die for this country but don't dare dream of being president. I believe that Obama will win. Way too many people are watching Hannity and Combs on Fox and listening to crazy hate mongers like Ann Coulter who frankly I would like to slap but the fact is that there are plenty of white people throughout this country who are voting for Obama in November. (its just that not that many of them seem to live in Alabama)

I think it was very rude and dangerous for what that guy did. I think it is time for a change. not looking at race but looking at how this country has been ranned. Having a black president would be To see how things would be in this country. for racism to still be around like it is doen't make any sense at all.

Excellent questions. It is also kinda weird because I saw a whole bunch of McCain/Palin bumper stickers today and thought, "WTF?" No offense to Republicans out there, but I honestly consider this more of an election between IQ points than ethnicity distinctions. Not that it matters, our Electoral Collage like the Roman Senate, gets the final say in the matter - it's a Republic, not a Democracy.

On the other hand, I did consider putting a magnetic Obama sticker on my car but I had similar thoughts as Shekedra. But, I think I will...you know, "crazy white lady for Obama in Alabama" kind of message. I haven't ever thought of if all the presidents had been black what would life be like, but I grew up wondering why they were all male and had a penchant for beards. I have always, not daily, but often wondered what it would be like to have a woman president. Not like Margaret Thatcher, more like Pat Schroeder, Congresswoman from Colorado, as played by Sigorney Weaver. Anyway, this is what she's up to now:

I can't help myself - I love this blog topic. Here is another person who I think would be an awesome president: Cynthia McKinney - she is who I planned to vote for until someone resuscitated McCain.

Here's her old web site:

Here she is on wiki:

She's awesome.

As sad and unfortunate as these sort of occurences are, they are not surprising. The election in 2004 took place during my last semester at Auburn (one of the most politically conservative 'big schools' in the country). I was a member of college Democrats and proudly displayed a John Kerry sticker on my car. Well, my car took a beating that semester- both from objects and bodily fluids. Liberalism is just not an ideology that is widely accepted in the South. That, combined with the lack of acceptance of an African-American presidential candidate, has made for an ugly election year 'in these here parts' (couldn't resist).

Well my only comment is all of my life there has been a leader of the world that was not my decent. Because I appreciate all nationalities it has never been a concern for me about a person's race or nationality of whether they were right for the job. I feel that anyone who is appropriate deserves a fair chance.
